Lauren Halsey

Crenshaw District Hieroglyph Project

The Crenshaw District Hieroglyph Project is a public art installation drawing on vernacular cultures of Los Angeles neighborhoods to create surreal architectural sculptures. This project is an extension of artist Lauren Halsey’s existing practice, where she constructs ephemeral environments to counter oppressive architecture and spatial metaphors that reinforce familiar narratives of inferiority and stereotypes. The resulting works serve as a social space that offers a transcendent proposition for the future of marginalized communities.
